Geometric Menagerie Gradient Watercolor

Hey, there! I'm in LOVE with all of the geometric stamp sets in the January 2019 box from The Hedgehog Hollow! Especially the Geometric Menagerie stamp set! I wanted to make some gradient watercolor backgrounds that would make the geometric animals really pop! Make sure you scroll down to the bottom to watch my process video! And if you want to purchase a subscription there are several ways to subscribe! You could do a month to month rolling subscription to The Hedgehog Hollow starting with the January 2019 box or a three month subscription starting with the January box. There are also a few different boxes available for individual purchase so be sure to visit The Hedgehog Hollow shop!

I had the vision for these cards from the minute I saw the Geometric Menagerie stamp set! And I'm so excited with how they turned out! I used some Brea Reese liquid watercolors, but you could use any kind of watercolors. I didn't clean my paint palette very well from my last project - truthfully I never do! Haha! I usually just wipe it out with a baby wipe! I added some liquid watercolors to my palette without realizing that I had left some liquid glitter in the bottom, but I really like how the glitter adds some extra shine! I used a flat brush and added a strip of water and then picked up some of the color and added a heavy concentration to the water on my paper. Then I cleaned my brush and added a strip of water directly above where I had just painted - just barely touching the color I had already laid down. Then I cleaned my brush again and repeated the process - adding a strip of water above the paint. I didn't add any color to the top, just clean water. And I let the color and the water work together and fade out towards the top.

You can see that little bit of sparkle on the purple watercolor the best! It's really eye catching! I used my heat tool to dry the backgrounds and then flicked on a bit of gold watercolor from my Gansai Tambi Starry Colors paint palette.

I stamped the animals from the Geometric Menagerie stamp set and the sentiment from the Geometric Love stamp set - both are included in the January box. I used white embossing powder so that they would really pop off the background.

You could easily create a whole set of these! And I plan to! I love them so much! Check out the video below!

Thanks for stopping by!

  1. Hi! Your cards are beautiful. I'm going to order the January box especially for the stamp set you used. I was very disappointed with the 2018 Holiday box and they wouldn't let me return it. I hope this one is better!
