Using Small Dies to Create Backgrounds

Hi! I shared a little peek at the background I made for this card on my Instagram a few weeks ago. I just love using small stamps and small dies to create backgrounds for my cards. It's such an awesome way to get more out of your supplies! I used the tiny little rectangle die from the Extra Large Bow Dies from Pink & Main to create a "tiled" background! And I just love it! I paired it with the Pretty Jars stamp set and some creative diecutting from the new release!

Seriously ... I'm just obsessed with the little rectangles with their stitching and everything! I used the small rectangle die from the Extra Large Bow Dies set - it's actually the center "knot" part of the bow - and die cut it so many times from three shades of pink cardstock and some gold foil cardstock. I'm not going to lie - it took some time diecutting all the little pieces, but it's so worth it! Once I had a bunch of pieces die cut, I used a piece of scrap cardstock and covered it with double sided adhesive. I found this was the easiest way to stick down all the little pieces. You could use tape runner adhesive to cover a piece of cardstock or even use adhesive on each individual piece - but it's definitely quick and easy just to use a large sheet of double sided adhesive and go from there.

I grabbed the Pretty Jars stamp set and stamped out the jar, flowers, and sentiment onto watercolor cardstock. I pulled on the edges of the jar so that it would look more rounded, but you could definitely stamp it as it's intended to be stamped. I used my Staedtler felt tipped markers to add some color to the image. I love how the water in the jar turned out! I used a light blue at the bottom and a minty green/blue color at the top and blended them together. I used the Pretty Jars dies and did some selective die cutting since I stamped my jar and flowers together. I didn't do any die cutting for the jar because I altered the stamp, but I used the coordinating dies for the flower down to where it meets the jar and used my scissors to cut the rest of the image.

I wanted to add some embellishments to finish off the card, so I added some clear glitter to the centers of the flowers and to the jar and added two coats of Glossy Accents. I scattered some of the Rose Gold Glossy Dots around my card and added my jar and flower images with foam squares. I hope you like it!

  1. What a great card! I love the tiled background ❤️❤️❤️ And I agree, Pink & Main have some awesome dies. I have a set of their nesting hearts that I find myself using them ALL the time. Bonus points for being pink too 😉
