Kindred Stamps Long Hair Don't Care Envelope Journal

Hey, everyone! It's time to show off what I made for the Kindred Stamps February release! I got to play with the Long Hair Don't Care stamps, Long Hair Stencil, and Long Hair Stickers! There are also Long Hair Bookmarks, but my 3-year-old son stole them for his own stash! Haha! Be sure to check them out!

The entire Kindred Stamps January release will be available Friday, February 22nd at 8am PST/11am EST. Be sure to check out the Kindred Stamps blog on Friday for the full product release as well as the complete line up of all the Kindred Stamps Design Team projects from release week! You can't tell very well from this first photo, but I stepped outside of my card making comfort zone and made a journal! And this journal is made from regular A2 sized envelopes - something I'm sure most of us have on hand! There's a video at the end of this post where I show you exactly how to make this little journal, so make sure you watch! It's easier to show you how to put this together rather than tell you! Haha! But I'll do my best!

To build your journal you're going to grab a bunch of envelopes. Any size will work! And you can use as many as you want! My journal has 16 pages and I used a total of 9 envelopes. I started by taking 8 envelopes and folding the flap over to the back. Then I put one envelope on the left (with the flap folded over to the back) and the opening facing right. Grab another envelope and flip it over so you see the back - the part you would actually write the address on. Stick the flap of the envelope into the envelope on the left like you were inserting a card into the envelope. Once the flap is inside turn over the envelope so now you have the envelope that was on the right on the left with the opening facing right. Take another envelope (address side up) and insert the flap into the stacked envelopes on the left. Repeat the process until your journal is as big as you want it to be. For the last envelope you're going to turn the envelope over so that the flap is still going into the envelope on the left, but the address side of the envelope will be the back cover. If you've done it right, you should have one flap left on the very first envelope left over. Fold this one over the rest of the envelopes and adhere it down to the last envelope to create a binding or spine for the journal. Wow I hope that made sense! Like I said - be sure to watch the video!!

To create the inside pages I trimmed some white cardstock down to 4 by 5.5 inches and used a ruler and a fine point sharpie to draw in some lines and glued them to each of my envelope pages.

Time to decorate the covers! I trimmed some cardstock down to be the exact size of my A2 envelope and used the Long Hair Stencil along with some Fossilized Amber and Walnut Stain Distress Oxide inks to blend on some color. I did this on two panels - one for the front and one for the back - and used strong double sided adhesive to tape them to the front envelope and to the back envelope.

I stamped the images from the Long Hair Don't Care stamp set onto watercolor cardstock and heat embossed them with clear powder so that I could do some simple watercoloring. I used all of the little characters because they're just the cutest! Then I masked off one of the sentiments and added it to a banner and used liquid adhesive to glue them all onto the front of my journal.

Of course I had to decorate the inside pages of my journal! You could definitely stamp and color more images from the Long Hair Don't Care stamp set, but do you know that Kindred Stamps has stickers!!?!! They have all kinds of stickers, but my favorites are the ones that coordinate with their stamp sets! They come in small and large sizes and glossy or matte finish. And of course they have Long Hair stickers!! I used both the large and small sizes in matte finish and decorated every page in my journal. This is going to be a gift for my brother's birthday and since I had extra stickers left over I tucked them in the inside cover and I'll give them to him so he can finish embellishing his journal!

I'm completely in love with how this envelope journal turned out! I'm glad I pushed myself to create something other than a card - now I need to make more!! Check out my video below!

Thanks for joining me! Make sure you drop by the Kindred Stamps shop to pick up some new goodies for yourself!
