Hello! I went back and forth over whether or not to share this card. I made so many mistakes it's embarrassing! But in the end I decided to share it because I like the idea of the card, just not the card itself! Haha! I'm also going to share another card that I absolutely love! I made both of these cards after day 1 of the Merry Making Online Card Class all about making backgrounds!
Let's start with the "oopsy" card! I started by stamping a bunch of snowflakes all over some watercolor paper and heat embossing them with white powder. I wanted to create an emboss resist - but it seriously NEVER works for me! I watercolored over my embossing and it covered up the majority of the white embossing. I thought, no biggie! I'll stick the piece back in my MISTI and stamp and emboss the sentiment again. Ah! Something didn't line up quite right because I ended up with a terribly bad drop shadow look. It makes my eyes twitch! Also, when I heat embossed the second time I held my heat gun in one place a second too long and it burned my paper leaving a light blue mark right in the middle of my paper! Nooooo! I just couldn't cover it up. I decided to flick on some white puffy paint marker to add to the snow effect. That's about the only thing that went well! Haha!
After that disaster I decided to try another background technique. I used a bunch of Distress Oxide inks to blend some ink onto watercolor paper and then used water and a paintbrush to create the bokeh effect in the background. I love love love it! What a difference from my previous card! I wanted to add some snowflakes, but not too many, so I chose my favorites and heat embossed them in white along with a sentiment from Studio Calico.
I sprayed the whole piece with my shimmer spritz to add some sparkle. I love it! I will definitely be recreating this card!
Thanks for joining me!
