Mixing Distress Inks Two Ways ... And a Giveaway!!

Hello, stampers!

Today's video was super fun to make! I used the same sponging technique that I used in last week's video. I didn't want to do a "repeat" video, so I added another technique using the same two colors of Distress Inks.

I also wanted to let you know that I am hosting my very first giveaway! I have reached over 100 followers on Instagram and on YouTube and I am so thrilled! I will be giving away a giftcard to one of my favorite companies - Simon Says Stamp. Since this is my first milestone I thought I'd share my excitement with you! Just fill out the Rafflecopter at the end of the blog post. I will post a winner in two weeks (May 23rd)! This video features some products you can buy over at Simon, so hopefully you see something you like!

To enter the giveaway, just subscribe to me on YouTube. Once you do that, you'll be able to see the other 4 ways to increase your chances of winning!

*This is for an e-giftcard, so this giveaway is open to anyone!

Let's jump in!

Aren't they so super cute!? I love the bear! Clean and simple layouts seem to be all the rage right now, so I decided to try it!

The patterned papers are from Studio G. I looked through my stash of papers for something that had a solid color background with a little texture and these papers seemed to fit the bill! The one with the stencil hearts is pink with a white grid pattern and the watercolor one is pink with white polka dots. I wanted to be able to stamp my image and have it be seen on the paper.

The video starts with this card, so I'll do the same here on my blog. I stamped the bear image onto my patterned paper. The image and sentiment are both from a Simon Says Stamp set from the Hop To It release from a couple months ago called Abby's Spring Showers. I stamped the bear in Memento Tuxedo Black ink and cut out the image right up to the black line.

I cut and scored a card base from Neenah 110lb Solar White card stock and adhered it onto my craft surface with some painters tape. I covered the card front with a Simon Says Stamp stencil called Tiny Spaced Hearts. Just like in my last video, I started sponging with Peacock Feathers Distress Ink and then went over the blue with Mustard Seed Distress Ink. The resulting color is gorgeous!

I stamped my sentiment in Memento Tuxedo Black ink so that it would match my stamped bear. I added some foam squares behind the bear for some dimension and stuck him down onto my card! I really have trouble with one layer cards. This is as close as I get most of the time!

Okay, let's move on to the watercolor card. I stamped the bear with Memento Tuxedo Black ink again and cut him out. Then I trimmed a piece of Tim Holtz watercolor paper to be slightly smaller than my card base. I mixed Peacock Feathers and Mustard Seed Distress Inks on my class craft mat and used some water to blend the colors together. I used more yellow than blue because I wanted to build up color with my first layer being the lightest. Then I used my paintbrush to add a base wash of the color onto my watercolor paper. I dried it with my heat tool because I'm impatient. I wanted the first layer to be completely dry before I started my next one so that the colors wouldn't bleed into each other.

Once my first layer was dry, I added a bit more blue onto my craft mat to make a darker green and added a wash of color on top of my first layer. I dried the second layer, added a bit more blue to my craft mat, mixed the colors together, and added my final layer of green to the piece. Then I used my heat tool again to set the third layer of color.

Before I cleaned up my paint I added some spatter over the watercolor piece. I made sure my brush was good and wet, picked up some paint, and tapped the brush to add spatter to the card. You could let this air dry, but I was still impatient, so I used my heat tool to dry the spatter marks.

I stamped my sentiment in Memento Tuxedo black ink and added the watercolor piece onto the card front with a fun foam backer for dimension. I used foam squares to stick the bear onto the card.

That's it! Here's the video:

As mentioned before, here's the Rafflecopter! Fill it out and check back on the 23rd to see if you are the winner!
