Homemade Texture Paste and a Card!

Hi, guys! A couple of days ago I filmed a video of how I make my own texture paste...and today I finally uploaded it to YouTube! I've played around with it a little bit, and I love it! I didn't film making the card because I didn't know how it would work, but I'll share a photo of the card today.

As you'll see in the video, I used regular baby powder, Elmer's glue, and acrylic white paint to create the paste. I was a little worried about cleanup, so I used some inexpensive measuring cups and a mixing bowl I don't use too often. However, cleanup was a breeze! I just used hot soapy water and everything cleaned up really well!

I definitely have enough product to make another batch and maybe a batch and a half of paste. So, I think it turns out to be about $3 for a batch which fills a jelly jar completely (I had to play around with the paste immediately because I overfilled the jar!). It dries really quickly...about 15 minutes and it's dry enough to work with and 30 minutes later it's completely dry.

The next time I make more of this paste I will probably use baking soda instead of baby powder. My craft room still smells like baby powder and if you put the card too close to your face you can definitely smell the powder!

Here's a card I made with the paste!

The base of the card is made from a piece of white cardstock from the kit. I stamped the circle image in Lime Light Color Theory ink along with the single star image in Flamingo ink. I used a piece of pink paper from my stash as a layer. I thought the dark pink matched the Flamingo ink pretty well.

So. I colored my embossing paste with Blush Crush ink from Studio Calico to bring a little more pink into the card and then I used the paste with an old stencil that I had on hand. After the paste dried I stamped my three sentiments in Flamingo ink. I thought the card still had too much white space so I used the star stamps with some Lime Light ink to bring in some more color.

Want an up close look at the paste?

You can see it is textured and raised and so awesome! I love the way it turned out!!

Thanks for joining me!

  1. I tried this! 😊 Mine is cracking, do you have this problem? Is there a way to make it so it doesn't crack?

  2. I also added some corn starch. I will be trying one today with corn starch exclusively.

  3. With the baby powder mixtures can I take that and then add more powder and another color? I want to use a number of colors and a palette knife to create a background with lots of texture but need many colors!
